Sabah Route (point to point): Crocker Range – Poring Hotsprings – Mount Kinabalu
Brief Itinerary: 5 days 4 nights
Day 1- Sub Montane and Lowlands birds
Depart Kota Kinabalu and proceed to Rafflesia Forest Reserve (90mins), along the Crocker Range, Here we look for birds that are seldom seen elsewhere like the Mountain barbet, Borneo Barbet, Bornean Bulbul, Bornean (mountain) Blue-winged Leafbird, Black-breasted Fruithunter, Mountain Leaf Warbler and the very elusive Whitehead’s Warbler. Later drive to Sabah Tea Garden (120mins). Overnight Sabah Tea Gardens.
Day 2 – Lowland birds
Early morning birding in the forest of the Tea Garden. Later to Poring Hot springs to look for more lowland species. Overnight Sabah Tea Gardens.
Day 3/4 – Montane birds
Early morning drive to Kinabalu Park HQ (45mins). Here we explore the trails of this World Heritage Site and seek out its specialties such as Bornean Stubtail, Mountain Wren Babbler, Chestnut-crested Yuhinia, Mountain Blackeye, Whitehead’s Broadbill and Trogon, Blacksided Flowerpecker and Bornean Whistling Thrush among many others. Overnight Kinabalu Rose Cabin or equivalent.
Day 5 – Montane and Wetland birds
After some morning birding in Kinabalu Park and lunch, we depart for Kota Kinabalu (120mins) and along the way we stop at rice paddies for some waterbirds. Arrive at Kota Kinabalu. End of tour
